More than 61,000 candidates will sit for this year’s technical and vocational examinations, the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) announced on Wednesday, as it rolls out enhanced measures to clamp down on cheating.
At a press conference in Accra on May 13, 2026, CTVET Director-General Zakaria Sulemana outlined the commission’s preparations for the upcoming May/June Certificate II Examinations and other traditional TVET exams, scheduled to run from Monday, May 18, to Friday, June 12, 2026.
According to the commission, a total of 61,506 candidates nationwide will take part, 59,754 for the Certificate II examinations and 1,752 for other traditional TVET assessments. The figures mark an 8.06 per cent increase in Certificate II candidature compared to last year.
Mr. Sulemana attributed the rise to growing public confidence in technical and vocational education, as Ghana continues to prioritise skills development and workforce readiness.
A key reform highlighted at the briefing was the continued use of “Test Serialisation”, a system that generates multiple versions of exam papers to reduce opportunities for cheating.
This year, six different series of each serialised paper will be deployed, though all candidates will be assessed against the same standards and marking schemes.
“The integrity and credibility of these examinations remain paramount to the reputation of Ghana’s TVET system,” Mr. Sulemana stressed.
The commission also announced that this year’s exams will be the first harmonised assessment for TVET institutions previously operating under different examination bodies, including the NVTI, TEU, and NABPTEX.
CTVET urged candidates to ignore leaked examination questions circulating on social media and warned supervisors, invigilators, and security personnel against any form of negligence or misconduct during the exam period.
The briefing was also attended by Deputy Director-General for Corporate Services, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Zakaria, and Deputy Director-General for Technical Services, Mr. Anthony Kwame Zu.
