The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has temporarily suspended three pharmacies from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) effective Thursday, May 14, 2026, over suspected fraudulent activities and irregular claims.
In a public notice issued Thursday, the NHIA named the affected facilities as Delden Pharma Limited (Iron City, Weija), Paramedica Pharmacy (Guggisberg Avenue, Ablekuma) and Desh Chemist (Amasaman, near Odumase High Street).
The suspensions follow a routine claims verification exercise that uncovered material discrepancies in claims and service records at the three outlets, raising reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.
During the suspension period, the pharmacies are barred from providing any NHIS-covered services or dispensing medicines under the Scheme.
NHIS members are advised to seek pharmaceutical care from other accredited providers nationwide.
The NHIA issued a strong warning to all credentialed providers, stating that fraud and abuse will not be tolerated as they undermine the Scheme’s sustainability and deny members quality healthcare.
The Authority reminded providers that any attempt to defraud the NHIS is a criminal offence, punishable upon summary conviction by a fine, imprisonment of up to ten years, or both.
Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of the NHIA, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible use of public funds to ensure accessible, quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
