Fire has destroyed portions of the Anyinam market in the Eastern Region, officials confirmed on Sunday, May 17.
The Anyinam Fire Station reported receiving a distress call at 1:45 a.m. A crew led by Station Officer II Kubetew Alfred arrived at the scene within six minutes to find heavy flames engulfing wooden structures, a metal container, and other combustible materials.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 2:16 a.m. and fully extinguished it at 2:20 a.m.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started from burning refuse, which spread to nearby wooden structures due to negligence. No injuries or fatalities were recorded.
The fire destroyed one container, a kiosk, and several rubber bowls, with damages estimated at approximately GHC10,000.
However, firefighters successfully salvaged adjoining structures through their rapid intervention.
