The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has seized 140 boxes of alcoholic beverages mixed with stimulants in the Upper East Region as part of intensified efforts to protect public health.
The confiscated products include Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix, both of which have been officially banned from the Ghanaian market.
According to the FDA, the drinks were withdrawn because the stimulant content can mask the effects of alcohol intoxication, significantly increasing the risk of excessive consumption and serious health complications.
In a public advisory, the Authority explained that combining alcohol with stimulants may cause consumers to underestimate their level of impairment.
This, in turn, can lead to alcohol poisoning, reckless behaviour, accidents, and other harmful consequences.
“The FDA is working for your safety!” the Authority stated, urging Ghanaians to avoid purchasing or consuming the banned products.
The latest seizure forms part of ongoing nationwide surveillance and enforcement operations by the FDA, aimed at removing unsafe and unapproved products from the market.
The Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to rigorously enforcing safety regulations across the country.
