Collapsed Akome – Dzolokpuita bridge to be fixed within two months

Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency, and Mr Prosper Francis Dusey, Ho West District Chief Executive (DCE), have appealed to residents and commuters using the Dzolokpuita-Akome stretch to remain patient as efforts are underway to permanently fix the collapsed bridge linking the communities.

The appeal follows growing concerns over the inconvenience and hardship being experienced by residents and motorists travelling between Kpedze, Akome, Honuta, Kpoeta and surrounding communities following the collapse of the bridge.

The MP, accompanied by the DCE and district engineers, visited the site to assess the extent of damage and monitor ongoing works by the contractor tasked with reconstructing the bridge.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the inspection, Mr Bedzrah expressed sympathy to affected residents and acknowledged the difficulties commuters had endured since the bridge collapsed.

“We understand the stress and inconvenience residents and commuters are going through, but we are appealing to everyone to exercise patience while work progresses on the bridge,” he stated.

According to the MP, the contractor had assured authorities that the reconstruction works would be completed within eight weeks to restore smooth transportation and economic activities in the area.

“The contractor has indicated that the bridge will be fixed permanently within two months, and we are committed to ensuring that the work is completed on schedule,” Mr Bedzrah added.

Mr Dusey also reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the project to ensure quality and durable work for the benefit of residents and road users.
