Aboso-Bompieso Mine lease owners call on Wassa Fiase Traditional Council   

The management of Global (Ghana) Ore Industries Limited, a mining firm, has formally introduced the company to the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council in the Western Region.  

The company now operates the Aboso-Bompieso Mine previously held by Adudanfed Company Limited which stretches from Fanti Mine to Bompieso, in the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region.  

Mr Joseph Yankson Forbah, the Managing Director (MD) of Global (Ghana) Ore Industries Limited, who led the delegation said their presence reinforced the company’s willingness to bond with the traditional authorities, have the community backing and the general support of the operational areas as it sought to operationalise the Mine.

He assured the traditional council that the company would prioritise Social Corporate Responsibilities in areas such as, schools, health facilities, economic empowerment programmes, scholarships, local participation and strict environmental protection to enhance their social status.  

“We are not just here to Mine but to transform lives, and make sure indigenes benefit directly and build better living standards,” he added.  

He, however, noted the activities of illegal miners on their concession as a major setback requiring urgent redress to enable the company take off smoothly.   

Mr. Forbah in that regard called on the tradition Council and communities under the concession to peacefully vacate in favour of community cohesion and inclusive development.   

Mr Daniel Eshun, Community Relations Coordinator at the Minerals Commission, Takoradi Office, said the company had completed all legal procedures under the Minerals and Mining Act, Act 703 and L.I. 2173.

He gave the assurance that the Commission would play it oversight role to ensure that the Global (Ghana) Ore Industries Limited undertook it operations within the legal and regulatory frameworks.   

Nana Abena Kunadjoa II, the Paramount Queen Mother of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, prayed that the company’s takeover of the Aboso-Bompieso Mine, would be marked by total transformation in Wassa Fiase.    She encouraged the company to focus on development and jobs for the youth within its catchment communities for shared prosperity.
