Eyewitnesses said the truck, registered as GE 5963-23, appeared to be speeding as it came down the hill.

It swerved into the left lane, mounted the pavement, and slammed into a roadside shop.

Some motorists at the scene speculated that the vehicle may have suffered brake failure.

The driver of the truck was nowhere to be found after the crash.

Two men riding a tricycle that was struck by the truck managed to escape unhurt, according to witnesses.

The incident has reignited safety concerns along the Galenkui Hill stretch.

About 18 months ago, a mini-bus descending the same hill collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck traveling in the opposite direction, killing 10 people instantly.

Police have not yet issued an official statement on Saturday’s accident.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause, including whether brake failure or excessive speed was to blame.
