The government has firmly rejected widespread speculation that convicted former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, is under house arrest, clarifying that she remains in the lawful custody of the Ghana Prison Service.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, set the record straight during an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, June 17.
He emphasised that the Prison Service retains full authority over her detention and welfare, and that no special arrangements have been made.
“She is in the custody of the Ghana Prison Service. They are responsible for the management, welfare, and placement of all inmates. She is not in any house. She is not under any house arrest, let me put that on record,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.
His comments come in response to claims by IMANI Africa President Franklin Cudjoe, who suggested that a top government official had informed him of a change in her detention status.
The Minister challenged Cudjoe to publicly name his source, describing the allegation as unfounded.
“If Franklin Cudjoe tells you that, he is not telling the truth. Let him name the so-called top government official who told him that,” he added.
When pressed on the state of Madam Tamakloe-Attionu’s health, amid concerns raised by civil society groups, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu declined to comment, stating that such information falls outside his portfolio and is a matter for the Prisons Service to address if necessary.
“I don’t have information on her medical condition. It is not my place to discuss it. The Prison Service knows how to handle inmates and will communicate officially where needed,” he said.
The Minister reiterated that the public should disregard all speculation unless corroborated by verifiable evidence, and affirmed that Madam Tamakloe-Attionu continues to serve her sentence under standard prison protocols.
