Kristo Asafo Mission denies shooting, accuses Adwoa Safo of damaging church property

The leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has denied claims that former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, was shot during an incident at the church’s premises in Kwabenya on 21 June 2026, instead accusing her of forcing her vehicle into the entrance gates of the property and causing substantial damage.

In a statement signed by the church’s leadership, Kristo Asafo Mission said the incident occurred after a lawful church event was being held at the premises.

According to the statement, Adwoa Safo arrived at the venue and “forcefully drove her vehicle into the entrance gates,” striking two metallic gates and causing significant damage to both structures.

The church said numerous worshippers and guests, including individuals seated close to the entrance, were present at the time, and described the incident as having created a serious risk to life and property.

It said security personnel on duty intervened “to prevent further escalation and to protect persons gathered at the event,” adding that their actions were directed solely at preserving public safety.

Addressing reports that the former MP had been shot during the incident, the church said it was aware of “unverified media reports” suggesting she was shot by her brother, and claimed she had demonstrated a “purported victim presentation” in what it described as an apparent attempt to create a false impression of having sustained a gunshot injury.

The church categorically rejected these allegations as false and misleading, stating that, to the best of its knowledge, no shooting occurred.

The church’s account stands in contrast to an earlier press statement from the Ghana Police Service, which said preliminary investigations indicated that armed security personnel at the residence had allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injury to Madam Safo, and that her vehicle had been found with multiple gunshot marks.

The police have since arrested six private security guards in connection with the incident and recovered firearms, including pump-action guns and a pistol loaded with ammunition, along with communication equipment.

In its statement, the church called on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into all aspects of the incident, and urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified social media reports, asking instead that law enforcement agencies be allowed to establish the facts through due process.

The organisation said it remains committed to peace, truth, the rule of law, and the safety of all persons who attend its events.

Investigations by the Ghana Police Service are ongoing.
