The Ghana Police Service’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team, working alongside the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested 24 individuals in an operation across multiple communities in the Ashanti Region.
The operation, which targeted suspected drug peddlers and other criminal elements, was conducted in Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo, and Abofour.
Among those arrested are 21 males and three females, with ages ranging from 17 to 62 years.

During the operation, police recovered a substantial cache of exhibits, including two unregistered vehicles (a Toyota Highlander and a Toyota Camry), a Mercedes-Benz saloon with registration number AS 8724-Z, a pump-action gun with serial number 21GN-1918 and seven rounds of ammunition, and a fireproof high-security safe.

A total of 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were also found, as well as various narcotic substances including Tramadol tablets (225mg and 250mg), narcotics processing materials, forty locally made toffees suspected to contain narcotic substances, electronics including a Dell laptop and two LED television sets, and various sums of money believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Among those arrested are Richmond Okyere, 49, who was found in possession of the pump-action gun; Juliana Viver, 17, the youngest suspect; and Paul Addo, 62, the oldest.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, confirmed that upon conclusion of investigations, those found culpable will be put before the court.

“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at combating drug-related offences, violent crime, and other forms of criminality to ensure the safety and security of the public,” the statement read.

The Police Service is encouraging members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing credible information on criminal activities through the nearest police station or designated emergency channels.
