The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has rescued nine injured persons, including seven police officers, in a coordinated emergency response to a hazardous chemical leak and two separate road crashes in the Ashanti Region.
The most urgent rescue operation unfolded at Konongo, where firefighters contained a hydrogen peroxide leak from a cargo truck that had begun emitting toxic smoke.
While no casualties were recorded, crews worked quickly to prevent the chemical from endangering nearby residents.
However, the bulk of the rescue effort centred on two road accidents.
At Akrofoase Mampong, seven police officers sustained injuries when their service bus skidded into a ditch.
Firefighters extracted the trapped officers from the wreckage before they were rushed to hospital for treatment.
At Senfi, near the Police Barrier, rescue teams freed two victims pinned in a collision between a Kia Rhino truck and a Howo petrol tanker.
Both were stabilised at the scene and transported to a medical facility.
All nine injured persons are receiving medical care, the GNFS confirmed. Investigations into the causes of both accidents remain underway.
