Police arrest two over viral video of minor operating articulated truck

The Ghana Police Service has taken into custody two individuals in connection with a widely circulated video depicting a 12-year-old boy driving a heavy-duty articulated truck on public roads.

The suspects, the juvenile and a 34-year-old man believed to be the assigned driver of the DAF XF 105 truck (registration number GS 3097-20), are currently assisting investigators at the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Accra.

Authorities confirm that both are in lawful custody as investigations continue into the circumstances that led to the minor operating the vehicle.

In a stern advisory, the Police Service is reminding parents, guardians, and fleet owners that permitting unlicensed or underage persons to operate motor vehicles, especially heavy-duty trucks, is a grave violation of the Road Traffic Act and poses an extreme danger to public safety.

The Service is calling on the public to remain vigilant and report such reckless conduct to the authorities to help curb needless fatalities on our roads.
