The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested ten students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) for trafficking cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams, dismantling what it describes as an emerging criminal enterprise operating on campus.
The arrests were the culmination of an intelligence-led operation conducted during the university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations on Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1, 2026.
According to NACOC, operatives apprehended the suspected ringleader, 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, alongside nine other young men while they were actively selling the illicit products to students and event patrons.
Authorities believe the group had established an organised network for the production, distribution, and sale of the narcotic-laced consumables.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the operation posed a significant threat to public health, specifically targeting young people. NACOC has expressed grave concern over the growing trend of students commercialising narcotic substances under the guise of entertainment and entrepreneurship.
The Commission has issued a stern warning that cannabis-infused food, beverages, and edibles remain strictly illegal.
“Individuals who manufacture, distribute, possess, or sell such products will face the full rigours of the law,” the statement read.
NACOC commended its officers for their professionalism in executing the operation without incident.
The agency has also called on parents, university authorities, and the public to remain vigilant and report suspected drug-related activities.
“Educational institutions must remain centres of learning and character development, not safe havens for drug trafficking,” the Commission emphasised.
The suspects remain in NACOC custody and are being processed for prosecution, as the Commission vows to intensify operations targeting criminal networks that prey on students and vulnerable groups across the country.
