The Oti Regional Police Command has intercepted an articulated truck allegedly conveying suspected narcotic substances concealed in compartments of the vehicle.
The interception occurred on September 14, 2026, following intelligence received by the Regional Police Command, according to a statement issued by the Oti Regional Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), John Nchor, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
The vehicle, a DAF articulated truck with registration number CE 3996-15, was intercepted and searched, leading to the discovery of 5,164 compressed and dried parcels suspected to contain narcotic substances.
The Police said three persons, identified as Abdul Razak Adams, 34; Jibril Amidu, 38; and Ali Adams, 33, were arrested in connection with the incident.
Another suspect, identified as A. Sadiq, reportedly escaped, with efforts underway to apprehend him as investigations continue to identify other persons who might be connected to the consignment.
The three arrested suspects were arraigned before the Dambai Circuit Court on September 17, 2026, presided over by Justice Dr Moses Bedima Duah, and were remanded into police custody to reappear on October 15, 2026.
The truck has since been impounded, while the suspected narcotic exhibits have been secured to support further investigations.
The Regional Police Command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the suspected substances and determine the identities and possible roles of other persons connected to the consignment.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and organised crime in the region and appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist the Police in the investigations.
The Police have described the parcels as suspected narcotic substances, pending appropriate investigative and forensic processes to establish their exact nature.
