President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially cut the sod for a new seven-storey multi-purpose car park and airport hotel at the Kotoka International Airport before the end of August, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has confirmed.
The project, which forms a key part of GACL’s broader infrastructure expansion drive, is designed to ease growing parking congestion at the country’s premier aviation hub while introducing hospitality services to improve the overall passenger experience.
Speaking during a working visit by Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation, GACL Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare disclosed that preliminary works are already underway.
The contractor has been mobilised to site and is currently setting up hoardings in preparation for full-scale construction.
“We’ve handed over to the contractor, and they are mobilising to site as we speak,” Mrs. Opare said.
“By the end of this month, God willing, we will invite His Excellency the President to cut the sod. Construction will then proceed, and in 24 months, this project should be completed and commissioned.”
The new facility is being constructed on the site of the existing Terminal 3 car park, which has been relocated to accommodate the development.
Upon completion, the seven-storey complex is expected to significantly boost parking capacity and provide an on-site hotel, supporting the airport’s continued growth as a regional travel and transit hub.
