A 20-year-old motorbike thief and a 36-year-old burglar have been sentenced to a total of 22 years for separate theft cases in the Upper West Region.
The Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Samuel Boafo Amewuho, handed down the sentences on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
In the first case, 20-year-old Nasiru Muftawu was convicted and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Muftawu was arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, following intelligence-led investigations that linked him to a series of motorbike thefts across various parts of the region.
After a full trial, the court found him guilty of the string of robberies that had plagued local communities.
In a separate incident, 36-year-old Eric Salia was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Salia was arrested on Sunday, July 26, 2026, for unlawfully breaking into the residential accommodation of a public officer and stealing valuable personal belongings. He was tried and convicted by the same court.
Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Francis Yiribaare, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to public safety.
“The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to creating a safe, secure, and conducive environment for all law-abiding residents of the Upper West Region,” stated DCOP Yiribaare.
“We will continue to pursue criminals relentlessly and bring offenders to justice.”
The Police Command also took the opportunity to appeal to the public for continued support.
Authorities are urging residents to provide timely and credible information on criminal activities, emphasising that community cooperation remains vital in preventing crime and enhancing safety across the region.
