The release warrant for former MASLOC CEO Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu has been signed by the court, following the Attorney-General’s withdrawal of a motion intended to block her release.
The Attorney-General formally withdrew the motion on Wednesday morning, August 12, 2026. Shortly after, the presiding judge signed the warrant, paving the way for her release.
The development comes weeks after the Court of Appeal, in a landmark ruling in July 2026, quashed her conviction and 10-year prison sentence on 78 corruption-related charges.
A three-member panel, comprising Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, with Justices Samuel Obeng-Diawuo and Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe, unanimously held that the trial judge had improperly shifted the burden of proof onto the appellant, violating her constitutional right to the presumption of innocence.
The panel also found that the prosecution had failed to establish several of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
Hours after the appellate court’s ruling, the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice filed a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court, expressing dissatisfaction with the acquittal.
It concurrently filed a motion for stay of execution, seeking to halt the judgment pending the final determination of the appeal.
However, on Wednesday morning, Principal State Attorney Hilda Craig withdrew the stay application before the Court of Appeal.
The prosecution has now refiled the same motion directly with the Supreme Court. Consequently, the lower court struck out the motion as withdrawn.
Ms Tamakloe Attionu is now expected to be released from custody, pending the Supreme Court’s decision on the substantive appeal.
