Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi, and Kitase on Monday, August 17, 2026, protested to demand the immediate rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road.
The protest, organised by the Dome-Kwabenya–Kitase Road Stakeholders Committee, was a peaceful demonstration aimed at drawing urgent government attention to the deplorable state of the road, which has remained incomplete for over two decades.
Residents say they have exhausted all formal channels of engagement with authorities, including multiple letters, phone calls, and visits to relevant government agencies, without tangible response.
The demonstration, they maintain, was a last resort.

Protesters noted difficulty in movement for residents, commuters, and transport operators, and economic losses for local businesses due to poor accessibility.
They also touched on health risks, particularly respiratory infections from excessive dust generated by vehicles, and increased transport fares, further burdening residents due to poor road conditions.
The residents are calling on the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and the Ghana Highways Authority to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road, complete all outstanding works to ease transportation challenges, and improve living and business conditions in the affected communities.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the Ministry of Roads and Highways or the Ghana Highways Authority regarding the protest or the status of the road.
The demonstration underscores the growing frustration of residents who have endured decades of neglect.
With no official response yet, the stakeholders committee has indicated it will continue to press for action until their demands are met.
