Fire guts ICT laboratory at Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College

Fire has destroyed portions of the Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Northern Region, following an early morning blaze on Monday, 17th August 2026.

The fire, which erupted in the institution’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, also extended into an adjoining classroom before firefighters could bring it under control.

Personnel from the Yendi Fire Station were deployed to the scene, travelling approximately 61 kilometres to reach the affected college.

Upon arrival, the team worked swiftly to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings on campus.

The blaze was fully extinguished at 09:13 hours.

No casualties have been reported. However, significant damage was caused to the ICT laboratory and the adjacent classroom, including computers and other equipment.

The Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident. Further updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
