A three-storey building at Manhyia South in Kumasi has been partially destroyed by fire, with 11 of its 44 rooms completely burnt.
The blaze broke out on Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2026, near the Manhyia Government Hospital.
The Ashanti Regional Deputy Fire Commander, ACFO2 Amos Aban, said the Regional Control Room received a distress call at 12:23 p.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of two fire engines from Asokore Mampong and the KNUST Campus.
Firefighters managed to contain the flames by 1:40 p.m., saving 33 rooms from further destruction.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, preliminary reports suggest it may have been triggered by a gas-related incident.
Meanwhile, the NADMO Officer for Manhyia South, Alhaji Alahaji, has appealed to individuals and organisations to assist the displaced residents. He indicated that NADMO is also mobilising resources to provide relief.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and assess the full extent of the damage.
