Residents of Kparekpare and adjoining communities in the Oti Region have appealed to the MTN Ghana to urgently intervene to improve network coverage and service reliability in the area.
The residents, who rely on an MTN network mast located at Kparekpare for mobile communication and internet connectivity, said persistent network disruptions had made telephone calls and internet browsing increasingly difficult.
They said the situation was affecting students, teachers, business operators and other residents who depended on reliable telecommunications services for education, commerce, communication and access to information.
Mr Williams Kunde, a resident of Kparekpare, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the network service frequently became unavailable, with mobile phones often displaying “No Service” or “Emergency Calls Only.”
He appealed to the MTN Ghana to deploy technical personnel to the area to assess the network infrastructure and undertake the necessary maintenance or upgrading works to improve service delivery.
A resident of Chamba Akura, who also expressed concern about the situation, said frequent interruptions in network connectivity had become a major inconvenience for residents.
She called on the MTN Ghana and the relevant authorities to send qualified engineers to inspect the infrastructure and identify the technical challenges affecting the service.
Mr Isaac Kaliwa, Assembly Member for the Kparekpare Electoral Area, said the network frequently went off, sometimes more than ten times a day.
He said the situation was particularly frustrating because residents had to depend on the network for essential communication and other services.
Several students, teachers and business operators who spoke to the GNA also expressed concern about the quality of network service, saying it did not meet the growing communication and digital needs of the communities.
They noted that reliable telecommunications connectivity had become essential to education, digital financial transactions, business operations and access to information.
The residents, therefore, appealed to MTN Ghana and the relevant regulatory authorities to treat the matter as a priority and take appropriate measures to ensure dependable mobile and internet services for communities in the area.
They said improving network reliability would not only enhance communication but also support education, economic activities and the general development of the communities.
