Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a veteran Ghanaian journalist and Pan-Africanist, will deliver the 15th Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lecture at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
The lecture, scheduled for Thursday, September 17, will be held at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium at 14:00 hours.
On Friday, September 18, UCC will convene a special congregation to confer an honorary Doctor of Letters degree, honoris causa, on Mr Pratt in recognition of his outstanding service to humanity and the media landscape.
Mr Pratt, newspaper publisher, broadcaster, political analyst, media executive and author, will speak on the theme, “Kwame Nkrumah, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: Perspectives on Constitutionalism, Development and Pan-Africanism.”
The lecture will draw on his knowledge of African history, political movements, journalism, liberation struggles, and Pan-African thought.
It will provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on the enduring legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President.
The memorial lecture series honours Dr Nkrumah for his role in Africa’s independence movement and the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union (AU).
The series was instituted by UCC in 1974 and inaugurated in November 1976 by the University’s first Chancellor, Dr Archie Casely Hayford.
The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lectures, focus on social, economic, and political issues affecting Africa and the Black world.
Since its inception, it has featured scholars, heads of state, ministers, diplomats, and other professionals from across Africa.
