The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly has supported 120 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates with mattresses and plastic chop boxes to ease the financial burden on parents as the beneficiaries prepare to enter Senior High School (SHS).
Each of the beneficiaries, selected from public basic schools across the Municipality based on vulnerability and need, received a student mattress and a plastic chop box.
The items were presented by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Eric Asibey, at a ceremony held at the forecourt of the Assembly.
Mr. Asibey said education remained a key priority of the Assembly and an essential foundation for development.
He said the intervention was intended to complement the Government’s Free SHS policy by ensuring that no child was denied access to second-cycle education because of a lack of basic boarding items.
The MCE urged the beneficiaries to be disciplined, obedient and focused on their studies, while advising them to avoid drug abuse, truancy and other behaviours that could negatively affect their future.
He also called on parents to continue to provide the necessary guidance, supervision and support to their wards throughout their SHS education.
Mr. Clifford Budu Heneku, the Acting Municipal Director of Education, commended the MCE and the Assembly for their continued investment in education.
He said the intervention would contribute to improving the transition rate of pupils from Junior High School (JHS) to SHS within the Municipality.
Some parents and beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the MCE and the Assembly, describing the gesture as timely and helpful.
