The National Insurance Commission has introduced its new Insurance Database (MID), to replace the manual system.

Taking effect on January 1, 2020, the new electronic database aims at reducing the number of fake insurance stickers in the system.

Passengers of motor vehicles can also check the insurance status of the cars they ride before they do so. They simply have to take note of the license plate number of the car they intend to board (irrespective of the phones they use), dial *902*5# and then follow the instructions.

Insurance Policies

According to the NIC, every road user who purchases the new valid insurance policy, must expect to receive a text message, confirming the authenticity of the policy.

The NIC has also directed all non-life insurance companies to stop issuing manual motor insurance certificates, effective January 20, 2020
