Another crash on Ofankor–Pokuase Highway leaves one injured

By News1

A multi-vehicle collision on the Ofankor–Pokuase stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway has left one person seriously injured on Wednesday morning, 19 August.

The crash, which involved a VIP bus, a military vehicle, a Toyota Vitz, and a four-wheel-drive, caused severe traffic congestion on the Kumasi-bound lanes but resulted in no fatalities.

The injured individual was swiftly transported to a medical facility for treatment.

This incident marks the latest in a worrying pattern of accidents on the corridor, occurring less than a week after a separate crash near the Ofankor Barrier and John Teye enclave claimed 11 lives and injured 13 others.

In response, Ga North Municipal Chief Executive, Akwetey Agbo, has pointed to driver indiscipline as the primary cause and is calling for urgent installation of speed cameras.

“If drivers obey the traffic regulations, there shouldn’t be a crash over this short distance,” he stated, emphasising the need for stricter enforcement and continuous public education to curb speeding, particularly on the descent from John Teye towards Pokuase.
