The Business Advisory Centre (BAC) has organised a skills training programme for young women in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, to equip them with employable skills and promote self-employment.
The training, which focused on practical skills in wig-making and make-up application, formed part of the Business in a Box (BizBox) Project, an initiative aimed at building the capacity of young Ghanaian women and men to establish sustainable businesses.
The BizBox Project seeks to create 250,000 dignified and fulfilling jobs for young people and support the establishment of 125,000 businesses.
Under the initiative, 125,000 selected participants are expected to receive start-up kits to enable them to translate the skills acquired into viable businesses.
The project also targets training 75,000 young people under the Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship (A2E) programme, while 50,000 women-owned or women-led micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are expected to benefit from training under the MSME Business Acceleration (MBA) component.
Mrs Linda Owusu Ansah, the Administrative Officer of the BAC, at the training, advised the beneficiaries to take the skills and knowledge acquired seriously and make good use of the opportunity.
She encouraged the young women not to consider the training merely as an opportunity to acquire skills or certificates, but as a stepping stone towards becoming self-reliant and building sustainable livelihoods.
Mrs Owusu Ansah urged them to practice regularly, improve their skills and explore opportunities within the beauty and fashion industry to establish their own businesses and generate income.
She further encouraged the beneficiaries to share the knowledge acquired with others and use their skills to create employment opportunities for themselves and other young people in their communities.
The beneficiaries, drawn from various communities within the District, expressed appreciation to the organisers for providing them with the opportunity to acquire practical and marketable skills.
