The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with a violent robbery and murder incident that occurred at Fiapre-Zongo, a suburb of Sunyani, leaving two people dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 5, 2026, when police received a distress call at about 8:00 p.m. reporting an ongoing robbery at Fiapre.
According to a statement signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, officers responded swiftly, but the perpetrators had already fled by the time they arrived.
The attack targeted a mobile money vendor, 30-year-old Amina Abu, who was robbed of GH₵30,000.00 in cash.
During the assault, four other individuals were struck by gun pellets: Khadija Abu, 23; Anifa Tanko, 24; and Ibrahim Osei, 40.
An unidentified man was also found lying with severe injuries behind Ibrahim Osei’s house, with a black mask beside him.
All five victims were rushed to the Regional Teaching Hospital for medical attention. Tragically, Ibrahim Osei died upon arrival at the hospital.
The unidentified man, who was suspected to be one of the perpetrators, also succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Crime scene investigators recovered six spent BB cartridge casings, which have been retained as exhibits for forensic examination.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects arrived at the scene after disembarking from a cattle truck heading towards Berekum.
Police subsequently alerted the Twumasikrom checkpoint to intercept two vehicles transporting cattle, leading to the arrest of nine suspects.
They are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be processed for prosecution.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend any remaining perpetrators still at large, vowing to bring them “to face the full rigours of the law.”
