The Call of Diligence, Oil of Prosperity (CODEP) Outreach Foundation has supported more than 2,000 widows in the Ada area with free health screening, medication and food as part of its annual outreach programme.
The beneficiaries, drawn from communities in and around Ada, received medical screening and medication, meals and drinks, as well as assorted items to take home.
Prophet William Oppong Peasah, the Executive Director of the Foundation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the outreach programme was the 12th edition and was being held in Ada based on what he described as divine direction received by members of the foundation.
The prophet said the foundation had over the years extended similar support to communities, including Ohawu, Ho, Dodze, Cape Coast, and Tema, among others, with assistance from some donors and supporters.
She encouraged widows not to lose hope but to remain strong and prayerful, while appealing for increased support to enable the foundation to reach more vulnerable people.
“Nobody wakes up and says to herself that she wants to be a widow. They should be strong and pray for us to get more help and funding,” he said.
Pastor Samuel Korley Ayornu, a religious minister of the Assemblies of God Church, Hwakpo Branch, and local representative of the programme in Ada, said the foundation’s outreach activities continued to expand and therefore required increased financial and material support from corporate Ghana and individuals.
He encouraged the widows not to give up on their aspirations and urged them to prioritise the education of their children and wards to secure a better future.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the foundation for the gesture.
Madam Joyce Apenkro of Afiadenyigba said she received free medical care, food and items to take home, describing it as her first experience of benefiting from such a programme.
Madam Atah Gbenartey of Kasseh and Madam Gifty Zotorvi of Tamatoku also expressed appreciation, with Madam Zotorvi saying the free medication she received was beyond her expectations.
