The New Patriotic (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has elected Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Chairman COKA, as Regional Chairman to lead its reorganisation and mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general election.
Chairman COKA polled 658 votes out of 928 valid votes cast to defeat his sole contender, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, who secured 269 votes at the regional executive elections held at Jubilee Park in Kumasi.
Delegates from 45 constituencies participated in the elections to select regional executives to steer the affairs of the party in the Ashanti Region for the next four years.
Representatives from Afigya Sekyere East and Adansi Asokwa constituencies did not participate in the elections because they were yet to elect their respective constituency executives.
The other executives elected are Bernard Amofa Jantuah, First Vice Chairman; Aikins Addae Poku, Second Vice Chairman; Francis Adomako, Secretary; Kingsley Bonsu Kyeretwie, Deputy Secretary; and Dennis Kwakwa, Organiser.
The rest are Beatrice Owusu, Women’s Organiser; Helena Mensah, Treasurer; Martin Ameyaw, Youth Organiser; Razak Abubakar, Nasara Organiser; and Keskine Owusu Poku, Communication Officer.
The election was supervised by the Regional Office of the Electoral Commission and conducted under tight security.
The newly elected executives were immediately sworn into office by Madam Rita Asobayire, Chairperson of the Ashanti Regional NPP Election Committee, who charged them to hit the ground running and work to strengthen the party’s structures.
Chairman COKA, in his acceptance remarks, expressed appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to run an inclusive administration that would unite the various interests within the party.
He said the task ahead required unity, commitment and collective effort to rebuild the party and position it for the next general election.
“Together, let us unite, rebuild, and prepare the NPP for victory in 2028,” he said.
The election is expected to usher in a new phase of political organisation within the NPP in the Ashanti Region, with the new leadership expected to focus on strengthening grassroots structures, deepening mobilisation and promoting reconciliation among members.
The Ashanti Region remains strategically important to the NPP, and the ability of the new executives to consolidate the party’s support base and restore cohesion will be critical to its preparations for the 2028 general election.
