A 28-year-old branch manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC has been granted GHC1m bail by the Adenta Circuit Court over the alleged theft of GHC1 million from the bank’s internal account.

Adjetey Isaac Noi is accused of reactivating a dormant customer account without the holder’s consent and using it as a transit point to move the money into accounts at other banks.

He is facing a single charge of stealing. He pleaded not guilty.

The alleged transactions took place between March and September 2025.

Presiding judge Mrs Angela Attachie admitted Noi to bail in the sum of GHC1 million with two sureties, who must justify the amount with landed property.

His lawyer had urged the court to grant bail, telling the court the accused is not a flight risk and has a fixed residence at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.

The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2027.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, presenting the facts, told the court the complainant is the Head of Audit and Inspection at ARB Apex Bank PLC.

On September 28, 2026, the complainant and a team of auditors descended on the Oyibi branch for an audit and inspection after intelligence pointed to fraudulent transactions there.

The team allegedly found that GHC1 million had been moved from the bank’s internal account into account number 3061110010021221, held in the name of Nii Adjei Sowatey, at the same bank.

The auditors alerted the bank’s head office, which instructed the complainant to report the matter to the police.

Noi was arrested shortly afterwards, but the prosecution said he could not give a satisfactory explanation for the transfer during interrogation.

Investigations, the court heard, showed the dormant account was allegedly reactivated without the owner’s knowledge and used to funnel the funds to various accounts in other banks.

The prosecution said Noi was also unable to account for the transfers during the investigations.
