Mr. Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) Chief Executive, has warned residents to desist giving their refuse to junkies to dispose of.
According to him, these drugs infested persons only dumped such refuse in gutters and unapproved places in the metropolis and thereby desecrate the aesthetics as well as the health of inhabitants.
Mr. Faidoo said; “We have set up a taskforce and also will mount CCTV cameras, and anybody arrested giving waste to these junkies or personally dumping in unapproved places will face the full arm of the law.”
The STMA Chief Executive Officer gave the directive during a press briefing on the state of affairs of the Assembly.
House owners are also to provide their own bins and endeavour to practice waste segregation as the Metropolis sought to practice recycling.
The Assembly, he announced, had established a recycling centre at the Sekondi Kokompe and entreated people to send their waste materials there.
He also revealed the Assembly’s vision to convert waste to energy, having engaged SUS Environment, a Chinese company, to establish a factory in the metropolis, with representatives expected to arrive soon to finalise agreements
The Assembly also intends to demolish public toilets that are in the middle of communities to spare residents from the repugnant odour from these old fashioned places of convenience.
He hinted that the Assembly would not approve building plans that did not include toilet facilities.
On stray animals, the Assembly, he said, was currently prosecuting 12 herdsmen.
The MCE stressed on the need to prevent domestic animals from loitering around, saying, “you also have to acquire the appropriate licence to enable you rear these animals.”
