Chaos erupted at the Accra High Court on Wednesday when security operatives, believed to be from EOCO, attempted to arrest a lawyer, sparking a dramatic confrontation captured on video.
The incident unfolded after a hearing in the case of detained Techiman nurse Salomey Baffoe Awiti, who has been linked to the infamous Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
In the viral footage, a woman said to be a security officer is seen blocking a car as lawyer and Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah tries to get in.
Words are exchanged, and within seconds, a scuffle breaks out. A heavily built man from the lawyer’s team then shoves the woman aside, allowing the MP to speed off.
But it wasn’t over. As the car pulled away, the woman made a desperate lunge to stop it, nearly getting run over in the process.
Moments later, a second vehicle, believed to belong to the operatives, gave chase.
Reports suggest the MP had demanded to know the woman’s identity and why he was being targeted before the situation spiralled.
It remains unclear whether the operatives were EOCO personnel or whether they were attempting to arrest the lawyer.
The lawyers were at the court for a bail application for Ms Baffoe Awiti, who has been remanded for two weeks.
The court has adjourned the bail hearing to September 24 after prosecutors asked for more time.
