ECG attributes power outage in Tema Newtown to underground cable fault

By GNA

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Tema Region, has attributed the prolonged power outage affecting parts of Tema Newtown and surrounding areas to faults on its network.

An underground cable fault located beneath a muddy water body is significantly contributing to the fault.

According to the ECG, the outage being experienced in the affected communities is a result of faults within its distribution network, and engineers are working to rectify the problem and restore electricity supply.

The affected areas include Leonardo, Adjetey Ansah, Manhean, Abonkor, U Compound, Naval Base, Golden Jubilee Terminals, Safebond, Asadtek, Reefer Terminals, Dangote Cement, Dzata Cement, APM Terminals, Turtle Close Guest House, Lizzy’s Plaza, Equatorial Health Care Services and their environs.

Madam Sakyiwaa Mensah, the Public Relations Officer of ECG Tema, explained that while engineers had successfully fixed some of the faults, efforts were continuing to resolve a major

underground cable fault that was proving difficult to access.

She said the faulty section of the cable was located beneath a muddy water body, making the repair work more challenging and time-consuming.

The ECG assured customers that its engineers were working tirelessly to rectify the fault and restore power supply as quickly as possible.
