Residents of Ehi, young and old, have taken to the streets in a mega float to publicise the 10th edition of the Nutome Gali Za celebration.
The float, held on Thursday, attracted thousands of people from Ehi and neighbouring communities, including citizens living outside the area who returned home to participate in the anniversary celebration.
The procession began at Ehi and passed through Weta, Weta Junction, Agbozume, Tokor, Penyi and Dzodze before returning to Ehi, with participants accompanied by music and brass bands.
Mr Byron Kwakutse Kpeli, a member of the Central Planning Committee, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the float was different from previous editions, particularly in terms of the large turnout.
He said the 10th anniversary celebration was also being used to draw attention to the development needs of Ehi, particularly infrastructure and road development.
According to him, poor road networks linking Ehi to major towns and markets had become a major concern for residents and farmers.
Mr Kpeli said roads connecting Ehi to communities such as Agbozume, Weta and Dzodze, as well as other local roads, were in poor condition and needed urgent attention.
He explained that the bad roads affected the movement of farm produce, including cassava, from farming communities to major markets and processing centres where the produce was turned into gari.
He said improving the road network would therefore be a priority of the 10th anniversary celebration, with the expectation that relevant authorities would support efforts to address the challenges.
Some participants who spoke to the GNA, particularly those who travelled from outside the community, expressed excitement about returning home to participate in the 10th anniversary celebration.
They said the large turnout for the float demonstrated the people’s interest in the celebration and the development of Ehi.
The Nutome Gali Za celebration is expected to bring together residents, citizens from outside the community, traditional leaders, development partners and other stakeholders.
The grand durbar for the 10th Nutome Gali Za celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at Ehi.
