Mr Christian Domey, a professional teacher and politician, has donated educational materials to 60 Junior High School (JHS) pupils at Dogo JHS and Lufenya D/A Basic School in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region.
The beneficiaries comprised 47 final-year pupils of Dogo JHS and 13 from Lufenya D/A Basic School, who are preparing to write the 2027 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The items, comprising 300 exercise books, 60 notebooks, 60 pens, and 60 pencils, are intended to support the pupils’ academic work and examination preparation.
Mr Domey said the gesture formed part of his commitment to giving back to communities and institutions that contributed to his personal and professional development.
He said Lufenya D/A Basic School played an important role in his educational journey, having served there as a teacher and gained first-hand knowledge of some of the challenges confronting learners.
He described the support as his family’s “widow’s mite” towards improving education in their former stations of work.
Mr Domey said the initiative was not only about providing learning materials but also about encouraging the pupils to take their education seriously, remain focused and develop confidence as they prepared for the BECE.
He urged individuals, groups, and organisations to support children in their communities, stressing that acts of giving did not have to be substantial to make an impact.
“Sometimes, what may appear small to us can mean a lot to someone else,” he said.
Mr Domey said the donation was the beginning of efforts by him and his wife to give back to their communities and support education.
He expressed the hope that the initiative would inspire former students, professionals, and other community members to remember their roots and contribute to the development of their former schools and communities.
He said investing in children was an investment in the future of communities and the nation.
