The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of a Ghanaian national who was among a group of evacuees repatriated from South Africa on Friday evening.
The tragic incident occurred at the Kotoka International Airport’s Emergency Medical Reception Centre at exactly 6:55 PM on August 14, 2026, shortly after the Air Tanzania flight touched down.
According to an official statement released by the Ministry, the deceased was one of 50 Ghanaians aboard the repatriation flight, which landed in Accra at 5:50 PM.
Fellow passengers reported that the evacuee’s health began to decline rapidly roughly 30 minutes prior to landing.
Medical personnel, who had been placed on standby specifically to receive the returnees, immediately rushed to attend to the individual upon deplaning.
Despite their swift intervention, doctors pronounced the patient dead at the scene.
The Ministry has confirmed that it is currently undertaking the necessary protocols to formally notify the bereaved family and has extended its deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.
