Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, have won eight medals at the ongoing World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi, India.
The team has so far secured two gold and six silver medals, underlining Ghana’s growing presence on the international armwrestling stage.
Ghana’s medal haul began in the Masters division with four silver medals.
African champion and police officer Grace Minta led the charge with two silver medals in the Master Women’s 80kg category in both the left-arm and right-arm events.
Florence Boakye Mensah added another silver medal in the Master Women’s +80kg left-arm category, while Dodzi Asinu claimed silver in the Master Men’s 110kg right-arm event.
The Golden Arms continued their impressive performance on the second day as youth athletes Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo captured gold medals in their respective left-arm weight categories to become world champions.
The team’s participation in the championship has been supported by the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Nimesh Pharma, Kofata Motors and Shoe Fabriek.
The remaining silver medals were won in other competition categories as Ghana’s athletes continue their campaign in the championship.
With eight medals already secured, the Golden Arms are expected to compete in the remaining right-arm and senior events as they seek to add to their medal tally before the competition ends.
