Some individuals living in and around the Aboso-Bompieso mining concession of Global (Ghana) Ore Industries Limited have reportedly interfered in the operations of the company.
The individuals allegedly prevented company officials and workers from accessing their legally acquired concession.
Mr Prosper Makafui Agbetoh, the Community Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the thugs forced workers to leave the site and allegedly vandalised the company’s vehicle during the incident.
The Company had therefore called on the Ghana Police Service and other state security agencies to investigate the matter and bring justice, while ensuring the safety of workers and protection of properties.
The government had approved Global (Ghana) Ore Industries Limited to operate the Aboso-Bompieso mining concession after the transfer of the mining lease from Adudanfed Company Limited.
The Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), provided that mineral rights are granted by the Republic through due legal processes, while mining operations remained subject to regulatory oversight by the Minerals Commission and other state institutions, with which the company had complied.
Also, Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), prohibits unlawful obstruction, intimidation, assault, or causing property damage.
