Three suspects were shot when a police team came under gunfire during a follow-up operation to retrieve concealed weapons linked to a notorious robbery gang in the Upper East Region.
The suspects, Amadu Apiiga, aged 33; Philip Vokbilla; and Bilal Adabode, alias Sulley, had led the Police team to the location and were shot during the operation but were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police say two officers were also injured and are receiving medical attention.
Other suspects believed to have sustained gunshot wounds fled the scene. The suspects have also been linked to the murder of a Police officer during a robbery at Zebilla on 8th February 2026.
The Upper East Regional Police Command retrieved weapons and motorbikes following the dismantling of a notorious robbery gang linked to a series of attacks on motorbike riders and mobile money vendors across Benaba, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, Zebilla and surrounding communities.
Items retrieved during the operation include two locally manufactured single-barrel guns, two pistols, including a BRUNI 92 pistol with eleven 9mm rounds of ammunition, eighteen BB live cartridges, three sharp cutlasses, four unregistered Yamaha Aerox scooters, a pair of black boots, a motorbike number plate, and two mobile phones
Police say the remaining six members of the gang, who were earlier arrested, are in custody assisting investigations.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the other members of the gang and trace the source of their weapons.
Police urge the public to report any persons found with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.
