Government moves to polygraph officers on sensitive security duties

By News1

Ghana will introduce polygraph testing for security personnel assigned to sensitive operations to curb leaks hindering its fight against drug trafficking, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak said on Monday.

The minister told Joy FM that all personnel involved in an operation would be polygraphed to verify their integrity.

He said some informants were demanding large sums, including one who sought $20 million from the Narcotics Control Commission for information on a major drug consignment.

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak said suspected leaks had raised concerns among international partners, adding that Ghana was cooperating with France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Australia on related cases.

He said operational procedures were under review, with additional training and more frequent rotations for officers on sensitive duties.

Around 84 suspects are in custody in various narcotic cases, he added.
