A road accident in the early hours of Thursday morning has left an unknown number of people dead at the Ofankor Barrier along the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
Reports indicate a gruesome scene after a tipper truck and a passenger Sprinter bus collided head-on, causing the bus to crumple and trap dozens inside.
While unconfirmed reports place the provisional death toll between eight and ten, authorities stress that the figure is likely to rise as rescue operations continue.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) dispatched emergency responders to the scene to extricate victims from the mangled wreckage.

ADO1 Alex King Nartey confirmed that personnel are battling a “volatile situation” to free those still trapped. Among the critically injured evacuated was a female passenger who suffered the traumatic amputation of both legs.

The accident has paralysed traffic on the major arterial road.
Motorists from Pokuase and Amasaman are being diverted to the outer lane and advised to exercise extreme patience as emergency clearance operations proceed.

An official casualty count is pending the completion of the rescue effort.
