Mr Alex Nii Okine Tagoe, a journalist and digital content creator, has been adjudged the Digital Tourism Icon of the Year at the 2026 Western Regional Tourism Awards.

The award, conferred by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), recognised his innovative use of technology and digital storytelling to promote tourism and showcase the Western Region’s rich historical, cultural and natural attractions.

Mr Tagoe began his content creation journey in 2023, driven by a passion to highlight Ghana’s tourism potential, particularly that of the Western Region.

The Region has several historical forts and castles, beautiful beaches, breath-taking landscapes and diverse cultural attractions, but many of these destinations remained underrepresented in mainstream tourism conversations.

Mr Tagoe expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying: “My promotion of tourism in the Western Region started out of pure love and a desire for people to know what we have here.”

The recognition highlighted the growing role of digital platforms and independent content creators in tourism promotion, particularly in reaching audiences beyond traditional media channels.

Meanwhile, The Groove, a new hotel, was adjudged the Five-Star facility in the Region.
