Mr Frederick Lartey Otu, President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), has called for unity among stakeholders after securing a third term.
Mr Otu polled 16 of the 27 votes cast at the 2026 GTF Elective Congress, held at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium, defeating former vice-president Charles Tsibo Cromwell, who received 11 votes.
His victory grants him another four-year mandate to lead the federation as it seeks to expand the sport’s reach in Ghana and improve the country’s competitiveness at the continental level.
Speaking after the election, Mr Otu thanked members for a successful congress and commended the Vetting and Elections Committee for its work.
“On behalf of the GTF board, I would like to thank all for this successful exercise. We know things have not been easy for the Vetting and Elections Committee, so I give special commendation to the committee,” he said.
“The elections are over, the campaigns are over, and we have to move on. We will bring everybody together to contribute to the growth of the sport.”
Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), who administered the oath of office to the newly elected executives, praised members for their role in ensuring a successful congress.
“You need to work as a team to grow your sport so that you can benefit from funding to promote your athletes,” Mr Akpokavie said.
“You have lots of ideas to grow the sport and I urge you to actualise them in the schools.”
Mr Akpokavie also challenged the new leadership to work towards qualifying athletes for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
