Police officer charged with murder in death of law student

General Corporal Robert Katey Koranteng of the Ghana Police Service has been charged with murder in the death of 20-year-old Central University law student Ivan Apprey Baidoo.

The charge was brought on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Adabraka District Court in Accra.

Corporal Koranteng is accused of intentionally causing Baidoo’s death by unlawful harm during a traffic pursuit on August 27, 2026.

The prosecution alleges that after Baidoo’s motorbike rider failed to stop at a red light, Koranteng pursued them and kicked the motorcycle, causing it to crash into a concrete barrier.

Baidoo was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tema General Hospital.

The officer was arrested on September 12. The case remains before the court as investigations continue. Baidoo is scheduled to be buried on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
