Three people, including a Dutch national, have been arrested in Tema after police intercepted 866 parcels of a white powdered substance believed to be cocaine, ingeniously concealed in sacks of gari and konkonte and destined for export.
The operation, carried out around 8 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, was the result of an intelligence-led sting at a warehouse within the Tema Port enclave, according to security sources.
The suspects, two Ghanaians and one Dutch national, were apprehended while supervising a team of men loading the consignment into a 40-foot container for export.
The sacks of gari, a common cassava-based staple, and konkonte, a dried cassava powder, were being prepared for shipment when officers moved in.
Sources close to the investigation told Graphic Online’s Benjamin Xornam Glover that the suspects were caught red-handed overseeing the packaging and loading process.
The truck used in the operation, along with the intercepted parcels, has been impounded.
All three suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the estimated street value of the seized cocaine, but the scale of the interception has been described as one of the most significant port-side drug hauls in recent months.
The Police have commended the intelligence team for their vigilance and urged the public to continue providing information that aids in the fight against drug trafficking.
