Two junior high school students writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have died in a motorcycle accident while travelling to their exam centre.
The deceased, identified as Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were pupils of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School.
They were travelling from Charia to Wa on Sunday, April 3, when the crash occurred.
According to JoyNews’ Upper West Regional correspondent, Rafiq Salam, the two were heading to Wa to stay for the week-long examination because their community has no exam centre.
Motorcycles, locally known as okada, are the primary means of transport in the area.
Taufii Ibrahim was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby health facility. Abdul Khalid died there on Monday afternoon.
More than 620,000 candidates across the country began the one-week examination on Monday, May 4.
