Professor Fred Yao Gbagbo of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has advocated for a united front to advance knowledge, promote well-being and contribute towards national development and the Sustainable Development Goals.
He stated that the faculty aimed to enhance education, science and services in Ghana and beyond in its quest to train the heart, hand, and head.
Prof. Gbagbo who is the Dean of the faculty of Health and Life Sciences and Health Economics Education (FHASHEE), said this in an address he delivered at the 2026 FHASHEE faculty educational fair and Alumni Homecoming at Winneba.
The Event on the theme: “Building together for sustainable future; strengthening the FHASHEE Legacy through Alumni partnership,” was chaired by Prof. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku of the Department of Art Education, on behalf of Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, the Vice Chancellor of UEW.
The event was used to raise funds for the construction of an ultra-modern FHASHEE block.
There was gymnastics display by the department of health, physical education, recreation and sports, and fashion show by the department of clothing and textiles and integrated home economics education.
Prof. Gbagbo stated that the programme was more than just an academic event, as they were building together with their alumni, a unique platform where their achievements, innovations, research findings, creative works, community impact would be showcased and a day set aside to connect students, faculty, academia, industry, the larger community and their alumni.
He said their mission was to propel the faculty into an internationally reputable center for coordinating teaching and research in health, allied sciences and home economics education to produce competent teachers, administrators, coaches, entrepreneurs, excellent researchers to offer relevant advice to all stakeholders on policy formulation and or updates of health, allied sciences and home economics education in the country.
Prof. Gbagbo said the faculty served as a reputable establishment for coordinating teaching and study of health, allied sciences and home economics education by encouraging and exploring the required competencies for teaching and research.
“FHASHEE is made up of several departments that offers 15 different programmes with several degrees, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programmes of study at both national and international levels,” Prof. Gbagbo stated.
“The departments in our faculty include the Department of Garment and Textiles Education, Environmental Health and Sanitation Education, Family Life Management, Food and Nutrition Education, Health Administration and Education, Health Physical Education, Recreation and Sports and Integrated Room Economics Education.”
He said the programmes being offered in these departments provided an excellent choice and prepared graduates to attain health, allied sciences and home economics education, to prepare them for successes in the real world of family life.
The faculties combined diverse bi-interrelated disciplines of health sciences, allied sciences and home economics education to give them a distinctive identity and a broad scope of influence on the job market.
He stated that the faculty had made remarkable strides in teaching, research and community engagement and had conducted powerful research on public health, occupational safety, food security, nutrition and sustainable livelihoods.
Prof Gbagbo indicated that the fair allowed the faculty to share these successes with its partners, stakeholders and friends, and was also a chance to inspire the next generation of professionals and invite collaborations that would further strengthen its work.
The Dean stated that, knowledge grew best when shared and pledged to forge strong ties with industry, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, local communities and most importantly, the alumni, to build healthier societies and create a more sustainable future.
He called for financial and material support from benevolent individuals and organisations to fund the faculty’s educational abroad projects.
