Church Coordinator pays fines for release of six inmates at Sunyani Central Prison

Apostle Solomon Owusu, the Europe Coordinator of the Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI), has paid court-imposed fines of GH¢10,800 for the release of six inmates at the Sunyani Central Prison.

The inmates were prosecuted for minor offences and were incarcerated because they could not pay the court-imposed fines.

They could not hide their joy and expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Apostle Owusu who also presented some swivel chairs to the prisons for their cooperation.

At a brief ceremony held at the central prisons at Sunyani, Apostle Owusu said the intervention was inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, on mercy and redemption, saying the gesture was driven by deep commitment to the preaching of the gospel.

He said love and humanitarian services were pillars of the Christian faith, hence the need to support the release and reintegration of the inmates with their families.

“Many of these inmates are not criminals by intent, but they are in prison because they couldn’t afford to pay the fines and as followers of Jesus Christ it is our duty to extend a helping hand to them for their release,” he stated.

Apostle Owusu urged the freed inmates to be reformed and live meaningful and exemplary lives, adding that his ministry had plans to extend similar outreach programmes to correctional facilities, to help reform their inmates.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Samuel Addae, the Second-in-Charge at the Sunyani Central Prison, thanked Apostle Owusu for his selfless service, describing the act as a demonstration of practical Christianity.

He appealed to individuals, churches, and other organisations to emulate the gesture and support in the rehabilitation and reformation of the inmates so that they could be successfully reintegrated in society.
