The Complementary Education Agency (CEA) on Wednesday presented a citation to Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, for his support for the 2025 International Literacy Day celebration organised by the Agency.
It also presented citations to the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mr Mohammed Abdul-Salam, and management of BOSTenergies for sponsoring the commemoration.
Mr Dziewornu Boli, CEA Deputy Executive Director in charge of Operations, said the Agency decided to recognise the sponsors for their support in making the event impactful.
“Any individual or organisation that supports education in the country deserves recognition and commendation,” he said.
“So, I think it is fair and fitting that we recognise their effort and just tell them that, like Oliver Twist will be coming for more.”

Mr Boli said the Agency was focused on its role of improving literacy in the country, especially for out-of-school children and adults.
It currently had 10,000 learners under the Complementary Basic Education, which is for out-of-school children between the ages of eight and 16.
Mr Abdul-Salam, on his part, said the NLA was committed to supporting education in Ghana through its Good Causes Foundation.
“No nation develops without education. So one of the key components of NLA’s support is on education. It is not a matter of choice, but a duty for all of us,” he added.
Mr Emmanuel Mettle-Nunoo, Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, BOSTenergies, said one of the focal areas of his organisation was education, hence their support.

He said complementary and non-formal education was a critical component of human capacity building that needed to be supported to drive national development.
The International Literacy Day 2025 in Ghana was celebrated on September 8, focusing on the theme: “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”.
The events highlighted the need to equip learners with skills to navigate, evaluate, and create information in a digital world.
The Day has been observed annually since 1967 to raise awareness of the importance of literacy as a human right.
